So, yeah. Just sitting here bundled up comfy near the window watching the snow fall. To some people this may seem like no big deal at all, but if you are from Arizona then you know how HUGE this moment is! Lol. This winter my husband & I were determined to take our A-Pack to experience the snow. Now, do not get me wrong. The older 3 have "experienced" snow in a small 12 x 12 fenced off area before (after thousands of other kiddos had already crunched & dirtied it up), but this time around we decided to take them to really get the full experience of winter time!
The end of our week suddenly opened up, all the planets aligned, & we decided to take advantage of the opportunity & head to the snow! It was amazing how quickly we were able to pack snow friendly attire for 4 kiddos & 2 adults, get a dog sitter, & head out of town. It was like we were on a game show being timed, trying to score some coveted trophy for "Fastest & Most Efficient"!
Once we had everyone loaded into the vehicle, we popped in a Curious George snow movie to "set the mood" as the ladies crunched & munched on their breakfast. Once we arrived in at our destination, scoring a sled was the first mission. No, not just a sled. We were on the hunt for a PINK sled that could seat multiple munchkins at a time. Once that mission was successfully completed, we headed to our hotel to check in. Once that was done, it was time to transform 4 special ladies into real life snowladies. Layers upon layers, gloves, hats, scarves, & beyond. I found it hilarious after we finally made our way outside looking at all the looking completely the opposite from us with their shorts & cut-off sleeves, lol.
After enjoying a lil' time playing in the snow with buckets & shovels, we then went to visit Flagstaff's historic downtown. The shops were so quaint & interesting to visit. The girls' favorite stop was this adorable candy shop. We let them each select 1 piece of of candy which was no easy feet. Through the eyes of a child this shop was huge with endless sugary options! They eventually selected their tiny treasures (very interesting to see what each of them ended up picking) & we grabbed a table so the could inhale them, lol. Aussie picked a chocolate covered orange, Ashy selected a milk chocolate & white chocolate combo (Not surprising because "nilla" is her favorite, & Aidy chose the chocolaty-est chocolate she could possibly find (double-double chocolate fudge).
After exploring downtown, the kiddos were ready for dinner. We basically closed our eyes, spun around in a circle, & then whatever lil' eatery we landed on was the winner! We ended landing on "Alpine Pizza" a neat lil' pizza shop with lots of character. Apparently, people come from all over to etch their initials in the way. Its a "BYOM" joint (Bring your own marker). They don't technically "promote" writing on the wall, but kind of wink at you & turn their heads. Off course since this diner was a random selection we were marker-less & ended up using our keys to scratch our mark in the walls, "A Team" & "J + S". The pizza was pretty big & not half bad. I definitely could have kept going, but when your oldest turns to you & says "Mama, I think I am ready for bed now" at 5pm, you don't argue.
So, we headed back to the hotel & got everybody ready for bed. Just as everyone was finally settling down, the cherry on the top of our adventurous day came-SNOW STARTED FALLING! The girls were absolutely ecstatic as they watched the lil' white particles fall to the ground. What a wonderful family adventure it has been!!!
Sometimes you have to stop making excuses & make things happen. I have to admit I was a lil' intimidated to attempt taking for lil' ladies down to the snow (being so inexperienced with it myself), but we went for it anyway! The payoff has been SO huge already! Definitely a memory that will last a lifetime for our family!!!
