"Hands Are Not For Hitting"

I have been asked by lots of mommies "How do you come up with all these lessons?". Well, the answer is very simple. "Lessons" are all around us every day if we are looking for them (sometimes even when we are not). You can draw from things your kids are going through (problems with sharing, handling anger, obedience, ...), necessary life skills (learning their address, phone number, table manners, money management ...), draw from what they currently interested in (cows, cars, recycling, ...). Heck, I have even found ideas from the daily vocabulary words on episodes of Sesame Street & from Curious George's interesting daily antics (The mini car wash we created and field trip to the actual car wash we went on is still one of my favorite memories to date). Academics are extremely important, but that is not all its about. I definitely teach those too, but the times you get creative & make things real for your kids are the things they will remember & understand the most!

The other day I drew inspiration from 1 of the new books we recently got, "Hands Are Not For Hitting". Even if your kiddo doesn't have problems with hitting, this is a wonderful book for all kids to experience!

We started off by all looking at our hands (counting our fingers, looking at the different sizes & colors of all of our hands). We then talked about what are hands are good for. They came up with some pretty creative answers for sure. After, I asked them if we should ever use are hands to hurt someone? Of course they gave me an enthusiastic "No!" (so cute) & then we went on to read the story.

After reading, we decided to do some positive activities with our hands. We used a stamp pad to decorate bookmarks, we colored some princess pictures, we made a pie, played with Duplos, did some puzzles, & we made our hand prints in clay & painted them (this took place over 2 days btw lol). SO FUN & so easy to do.

Books are another great place to draw inspiration from or even parent magazines ("Parents Magazine" is my absolute FAVORITE!).

Well, good luck & please shoot me an email or message me on FB if you find anything!
