For a shape activity today I had the girls help me form various shapes on the floor with painter's tape (it comes off way easily & you can see it). As we created each shape, we reviewed what the shape was, how many sides, & how many corners. It would be hard to create a circle, so for that we used hula hoops. After we had made all of the main shapes we played a game where I would yell out a random shape & they would have to run & sit inside of it as quickly as possible-They loved this! We also sang some shape songs from the "Sing, Spell, Read, & Write" program to help them remember the special characteristic for each shape as they would march around that particular shape. The rectangle song for example goes like this:
"We're marching, we're marching, we're marching around the rectangle. We're marching, we're marching, we're marching around the rectangle. 2 long sides, 2 short sides we're marching around the rectangles learning about the shapes as we go!"
Such a fun review for the older girls & learning experience for Aussie.
Try it!
